I can't see how that benefits anyone at all. Hell, I can't see how a Chrysler/VW merger helps anyone, either. VW is doing fine on its own.The only sense to the original Fiat/Chrysler was two companies that did next-to-no business on the other's continent, so some potential for shared engineering -- but even then, it was like two drunken men propping each other up. Meanwhile, VW already has more brands across Europe than it knows what to do with, so bringing in Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Ferrari, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, and Ram to add to Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT and Skoda hardly seems like an improvement. Mind you, the potential for amusement for the rest of us from combining German management with Italian labor does make me want to see this. Merging with GM would be even worse, considering the pain and expense GM just went through to trim down its portfolio. They'd have to "rationalize" Ram and GMC; Jeep and GMC/Chevrolet 4x4s; and Chrysler and all the GM car brands; then do something with the rump Dodge business, and who the hell knows what with that sackful of European marques. In the meantime, Nissan, Toyota, Honda and BMW are doing very nicely thank you with the absolute minimum number of global brands. Follow Me For More Exciting Posts!
